摘      要:The application of membrane technology for the large scale treatment of surface waters is becoming more ***- or micro - filtration membranes are being applied either as a single barrier or as part of a dual barrier together with downstream RO membranes to produce high quality potable *** paper describes the application of immersed membranes at two major water treatment facilities in Singapore(Waterworks A and Waterworks B).Both designs utilize gravity to draw filtrate through the membranes taking advantage,among other things,of existing site topography and the ability to retro - fit membranes to existing *** main advantage,however,is that the use of gravity as the driving force allows the elimination of many variable speed filtrate pumps,which would otherwise be required,thus reducing capital and O&M ***,pumping is provided by significantly fewer but larger pumps mounted in a downstream lift pumping *** allows more efficient operation and better control of downstream chemical *** both cases the membranes are being provided as part of larger process streams,one of which includes ozonation and GAC *** paper addresses the process and engineering challenges faced when scaling up membrane plant,which are modular and thus far of small scale,as well as the equally challenging issues associated with retro - fitting membranes to existing process streams.
