Current rehabilitation medicine in Japan,from a viewpoint of education system at medical schools

摘 要：A market of rehabilitation service is rapidly expanding in health care field, while developemt of edu-cation and training system for its professionals may vary in every country with their inherent socioeco-nomic and cultural background. The department of medicine and physical therapy was established at theUniversity of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine ln 1926. Since then, no departemnt of physical medicine hasbeen recognized officially in other Japanese medical schools. The Japanese Association of RehabilitationMedicine(JARM)was founded in 1963, when the University of Tokyo Hospital set up a small division ofcentral rehabilitation service. Development of rehabilitation medicine was firstly influenced by orthopedicsurgery, not physical medicine in Japanese medical schools.
