摘 要:正Coated papers are becoming a global business, and quality requirements are changing. Brightness requirements are trending upward, but opacity is trending slightly downward. Coated linerboard is an emerging new grade structure. Metered size press coating is gaining acceptance for the production of lightweight coated groundwood papers. Low angle jet applicator coaters are replacing both short dwell and applicator roll blade coaters. Curtain coating is forecast to be the next big trend in coating processes. Latex suppliers are providing new high strength and shear resistant latices. Styrene acrylate and styrene-butadiene-acrylate latices are replacing acetate and acrylic latices in board coating. New nano-particle starch binders show promise of competing with latices. Engineered pigments facilitate higher quality coated papers. Aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate can provide higher gloss. New non-mineral starch-based pigments show promise as replacements for mineral pigments. A newly developed modified natural zeolite overcomes many of the limitations of silica pigments in coating ink jet and digital imaging papers.
