摘      要:正Slow shocks are a key component in theories of reconnection. We show an example of a slow shock in the Cluster dataset, observed in the magnetotail in the vicinity of the tail current sheet with flow direction reverse from earthward to tailward or versa. Here we analyze several such events using Cluster observations from the near-Earth magnetotail. Multi-spacecraft analysis is applied to the observations, leading to a better estimate of the shock normal orientation;normal inflow and outflow speeds are calculated. Initial results suggest that taiward flows are accelerated across Petschek-type slow-mode shocks based on the Rankine-Hugoniot shock jump conditions and the Walen relation. Eartward flows, however, tend to fail these tests. A possible explanation may be the obstacle posed by the higher magnetic field pressure of the inner magnetosphere.
