Cerebellar fastigial nuclear inputs impinge on feeding-related neurons in ventromedial hypotha-lamic nucleus in rats

摘 要:The ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus(VMN)has traditionally been implicated in feeding behavior,energy balance,and body weight *** studies have indicated that neurons in the VMN receive various peripheral feeding-related signals,such as the gastric vagal inputs,blood glucose,and ghrelin,a peptide primarily produced in the stomach and stimulating both feeding and growth hormone ***,the cerebellum,a classic subcortical somatic motor center,participates in regulation of nonsomatic visceral activities including food intake via the direct cerebellohypothalamic ***,by using anterograde axonal tract tracings and extracellular recordings in vivo in rats,the present study was designed to investigate whether the outputs of cerebellar fastigial nucleus(FN)could reach and converge with the feeding-related gastric vagal,glycemia and ghrelin signals onto single VMN ***,anterograde tracers,biotinylated dextran amine(BDA)and Phaseolus vulgaris-leucoagglutinin(PHA-L),were injected into the cerebellar FN and nucleus tractus solitarius(NTS),a critical relay nucleus in the pathway transmitting information from the gastric vagal nerves to VMN,*** results show that both the projections of cerebellar FN and NTS reach and converge onto single glucose-sensitive neurons in the ***,of the 179 VMN neurons recorded,97(97/179,54.2%)responded to the cerebellar FN stimulation,in which 85(85/97,87.6%)were also responsive to gastric vagal stimulation,suggesting a convergence of cerebellar FN and gastric vagal inputs on the VMN ***,a summation of responses was observed(n=7)when the cerebellar FN and gastric vagal nerve were simultaneously *** the 22 VMN neurons responsive to both the cerebellar FN and gastric vagal stimulations,16(72.7%)cells also responded to the systemic administrations of glucose and *** results demonstrated that the somatic information forwarded by the cerebel
