摘      要:Low temperature phase barium metaborate β BaB 2O 4(BBO) is an important nonlinear optical material. Up to now, the BBO single crystals with large size and good optical quality were grown from Na 2O or NaF fluxed solvents by the top seeded solution growth (TSSG) technique with or without pulling. In order to improve the growth rate and quality of BBO crystals, several new techniques such as continuous feeding, forced stirring and cooling growing crystals etc. have been suggested. Applications of BBO as an excellent nonlinear optical crystal include mainly frequency conversion of various laser radiation, high average power frequency conversion, frequency doubling of ultrashort pulses and broadly tunable optical parametric oscillators (OPO). This paper is a brief review on the growth, properties and applications of BBO crystals.
