主 题:Shakespeare Feminism The Merchant of Venice Elizabethan age Beauvoir

摘      要:The paper focuses on analyzing the female character Portia in Shakespeare s play The Merchant of Venice, by adopting feminist theory from Beauvoir, Horney, and Wollstonecraft, and examining some of the social rules in Elizabethan age. By creating the rebellious heroine Portia, Shakespeare doubted and challenged the social rituals in his age. Thus Shakespeare s feminism is well demonstrated in this play.
