摘      要：The communication artery conniving north--west and south--Wed Ch-ina is one of the State Projectsunder the 9gth FYP (Five--year--Plan). The project’s main section, running from Lanzhou across Xining toLhasa, the capital of Tibet, has been completed in August, four months ahead of schedule. The cable is2754 km long, traversing 3 provincial areas and 23 counties and cities, capable of offering 21330 tollcircuits at the initial stabs of operation. The total project investment costs about 612 mil yuan. Theproject has been identified as one of the rare engineering f6ats with such difficult terrain and utmostimplementation difficulties ever encountered in the history of telecommunications constructions at homeas well as abroad.
