摘 要:All the cells of the body are equipped with the necessary organelles for carrying on an independent existence. They can provide for their energy needs by oxidizing food material, and they can synthesize the nucleic acids and proteins required for their maintenance and reproduction. They are surrounded by membranees adapted for the intake of oxygen and nutrients. But these are obtainable only from the external environment. Most of the cells of the body have no contact with the external environment. They are entirely dependend upon the transportation function of the circulatory system for supplies of oxygen and nutrients.
